01/ Overview

The route

A steep start, quiet forest paths and open meadows characterise this hike from Krattigen to Leissigen. After the highest point near Greberegg, the long descent leads down to the shore of Lake Thun.

From the Krattigen, Dorf bus stop, the yellow-waymarked hiking trail climbs briskly out of the village. Almost 350 metres of elevation are gained over the first three kilometres, through forest and across open meadows. Near Greberegg, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,060 m. The trail then continues with gentler ups and downs, alternating between stretches of forest and open terrain.

The long descent to Leissigen gradually begins. Hotel Meielisalp lies directly on the route and is a good place to stop for a break after just over two hours. The hiking trail then continues to lose elevation, eventually reaching the village of Leissigen. Near the church, the route draws close to Lake Thun and shortly afterwards touches its shore. After around 10 km and just under three hours, the hike ends near the Leissigen (See) stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
