01/ Overview
The route
The perspiration at the start of this stage is well worth it: the highlight of the tour is the natural rock amphitheatre of Creux du Van, Swiss equivalent of the Grand Canyon. From up here, enjoy a splendid view of Lake Neuchâtel. The trail crosses meadows and woodlands to reach the restaurant of Les Rochats.
The hike begins directly at Noiraigue railway station. The yellow-marked trail leaves the village and climbs steeply through the wooded slopes of the Jura. At Les Oeillons, the terrain opens out, after which the long ascent towards Creux-du-Van continues. After around five kilometres, the viewpoint is reached – a rewarding place to stop before the trail continues up to the Jura heights.
Near Le Soliat, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,460 m. The summit itself lies slightly off the route. Open meadows and pastures now characterise the trail, with another opportunity to stop for refreshments at La Baronne. The hike then continues at a gentler pace over undulating terrain, alternating between woodland and open countryside. Passing La Montagne Delay, the route finally reaches Les Rochats. After 13 kilometres and just over four hours, the hike ends near the Provence, Les Rochats bus stop.
