01/ Overview
The route
Through hamlets, forests, meadows and vineyards, prospecting for white gold: information panels guide you along this educational trail as you follow a channel that used to carry salt water. On the way, you can visit the salt mine in Bex.
The hike begins at the Plambuit stop with a short ascent. After around two kilometres, the highest point is reached at just over 1,000 m. The yellow-marked hiking trail then continues through extensive woodland and across open meadows to Panex. Those wishing to stop for refreshments will find the Restaurant Chez Anita et François close to the trail.
The remainder of the route is predominantly downhill. Between stretches of woodland and open farmland, the trail passes through the scattered settlements above the valley, gradually losing altitude. At Antagnes, the terrain descends and the valley floor draws closer.
Towards the end, the route follows the Gryonne for a short stretch. After Les Dévens, the final kilometres lead towards Bex. The destination is immediately beside the Bévieux, gare stop. A good three and a half hours should be allowed for the 13-kilometre tour, with around 360 metres of ascent and 680 metres of descent in total.
