Simplon-Sirwoltusee-Weg

Hike in the Simplon region up to the crystal-clear Sirwoltu lake. The trail leads through rocky terrain and over scree slopes. The highest point is the Wyssbodehorn with a magnificent view down towards the mountain pass and across to the Valais alps.

The hike begins at Engeloch, near the Engeloch VS bus stop. The route starts gently for a short distance before the white-red-white waymarked mountain trail climbs steadily across open slopes. After the first long ascent, the Sirwoltesee comes into view a little way off the route. Above it, the surroundings become more barren, and rocky terrain characterises the rest of the ascent.

Near the Wyssbodehorn, the route reaches its highest point at just over 2'600 m. By this stage, around 900 metres of ascent have been completed. The long descent then begins: initially through the open high-mountain landscape, later across meadows once more down into the Simplontal. The trail loses around 1'100 metres in elevation overall, requiring stamina on the descent as well. After 10 kilometres and just over four hours, the hike ends in Egga. The Simplon Dorf, Eggen bus stop is located immediately beside the finish.
