Alpine Passes Trail, Stage 28/43

The stage begins with a steep descent to the Lac des Dix reservoir and the highest gravity dam in the world. The path continues along the lake, then up to the Col des Roux. From there it is only a short distance to where this stage finishes, at the Cabane de Prafleuri SAC hut.

The route begins at Cabane des Dix at 2,928 m, an SAC hut by the Cheilon Glacier and on the Haute Route. The starting point is not served by public transport; the nearest stop, Arolla, Magine, is just over 5 km away. The mountain trail initially climbs briefly to the highest point at just under 3,000 m near Tête Noire.

The path then descends steeply through open, rocky terrain. After just over an hour, it reaches the lowest point at Lac des Dix and comes down to the shore of the reservoir. A longer section follows on a wider hiking trail, initially across open terrain and later once again amid scree and rock. The lake remains a defining feature as the route continues towards the head of the valley in a steady succession of ascents and descents.

In the final section, the mountain trail climbs to the Col des Roux. From the pass, a short descent leads towards the destination. The nearest stop, Lac-des-Dix (téléphérique), is around one and a half kilometres away; the hike itself ends at Cabane de Prafleuri.
