01/ Overview
The route
Following an overnight stay in the hut, the route takes you across several passes through wild, alpine landscapes and past glacial tongues. The destination for this stage is Lac de Louvie with its superb view of the Combin massif. You may see chamois and ibexes on the steep slopes.
The mountain hike begins at the Cabane de Prafleuri, well away from public transport; the nearest stop, Lac-des-Dix (téléphérique), is around 1.6 kilometres away. In the barren, rocky high valley, the mountain path immediately begins to climb. After a little over two kilometres, it reaches its highest point near the Col de Prafleuri at just under 3'000 m.
Beyond the pass, the route leads through a vast rocky landscape, with constant ups and downs, to the Col de Louvie. Around the lac du Petit Mont-Fort, a stretch of water breaks up the grey surroundings. Later, scree and bare rock increasingly give way to open alpine pastures as the long descent towards Lac de Louvie begins.
Towards the end, Lac de Louvie comes into view. The artificial mountain lake lies directly on the route; the path follows its shore before beginning the final short ascent. After around eleven kilometres and a little over four and a half hours, the Cabane de Louvie is reached. There is no public transport nearby here either: the nearest stop, Plamproz, is around 1.5 kilometres from the Cabane.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
There may be snow on this hiking trail. Bring appropriate gear and plan accordingly.
