01/ Overview
The route
This winter walk, which starts in the village of Prés-d’Orvin, will take you onto the Chasseral ridge at a height of 1,288 m where a magnificent panorama over Lake Neuchâtel, the plateau and the Alpine chain awaits you.
The winter hike starts almost directly at the Les Prés-d’Orvin, Bellevue bus stop. The route initially crosses the open countryside above Les Prés d’Orvin, climbing gently between meadows and pastures. Sections of woodland add variety before the Métairie de Prêles is reached directly beside the route after just under an hour.
The ascent then continues. Near Mont Sujet, the circuit reaches its highest point at around 1,290 m; by this stage, most of the total 300 metres of ascent has been completed. From there, the route leads back through open countryside and further sections of woodland. Towards the end, it descends steadily and, after around nine kilometres, reaches the houses of Les Prés d’Orvin once more. The circuit ends at the Bellevue bus stop after approximately three hours.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
