01/ Overview
The route
This route starts in Pfäffikon SZ and leads along the bank of the Seedamm (lake dam) to Rapperswil SG. The section is marked by wonderful far-reaching views over an endless plain with flower-filled fields and meadows as well as the glistening Zurichsee (lake). The ultimate holiday feeling!
From Pfäffikon railway station, the signposted hiking trail leads out of the village and soon into open countryside. With barely perceptible inclines, the five-kilometre route makes for a leisurely hike of just over an hour. At Gasthof Seefeld, the trail continues towards Hurden, accompanied by the broad expanse of Lake Zurich.
Beyond the village, the defining section of the route begins: the wooden footbridge crosses the shallow lakeshore area to Rapperswil. Stretches of water and reed beds lie close beside the path as the opposite shore gradually draws nearer. The Heilig Hüsli stands directly beside the bridge. The chapel was once part of the historic wooden bridge and is now a landmark of the new structure, which opened in 2001.
At the northern end of the bridge, Rapperswil Castle above the old town heralds the destination. The final steps lead into the livelier urban area and to Rapperswil railway station, where the short lake crossing ends.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
