01/ Overview
The route
Traditional crafts accompany the mountain trail from St. Jakob through the wild-haymaking landscape of the Isenthal. After crossing open slopes and woodland, the long descent ends by Lake Uri in Isleten.
From the Isenthal, Seilbahn St. Jakob PostBus stop, the Isenthal Crafts Trail initially crosses open terrain. Six hands-on stations introduce traditional tasks such as making shingles, splitting wood, working leather and tying a hay net. Via Chliwäldli, the mountain trail climbs to its highest point at just over 1,000 m near the Horn.
The route then descends to Isenthal. It continues along the old country path through the valley’s wild-haymaking landscape. Wild haymaking is still practised here, and the landscape has received an award from the Swiss Landscape Fund. Between open slopes and woodland, the trail now steadily loses elevation.
At Chäppeli, care is required when crossing the road. The mountain trail then continues down the valley until the first houses of Isleten and the shore of Lake Uri are reached. Near the destination, there is an opportunity to swim in the lake. The Isleten, Seegarten PostBus stop is just a few steps from the end of the route.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
