01/ Overview
The route
An almost level lakeside trail links Sarnen and Sachseln. After starting in the town, the route follows the shore of Lake Sarnen, with an opportunity for a coffee break right by the water.
From Sarnen railway station, the route initially leads through the town. Passing the cantonal hospital and crossing Brünigstrasse, it reaches Lake Sarnen without any significant ascent. After just under a kilometre, the shore is reached; this is where the quieter part of the hike begins. The lake lies at around 470 m and offers views across its long expanse of water.
The trail now follows the shore towards Sachseln, mostly along a broad hiking path between open countryside and the lake. The Hafenbar or the area around Seefeld Lido offer an opportunity for a coffee break right by the water. The route then remains flat and continues along Lake Sarnen before leaving the shore towards the end.
The first houses of Sachseln signal the approach to the destination. After just over three kilometres, the lakeside trail ends at Sachseln railway station. The Sachseln boat landing is only a few steps away; the S5 and the Luzern–Interlaken Express also provide connections back to Sarnen.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
