01/ Overview
The route
From Arnisee, the mountain trail climbs steeply through the Grüenwald to Sunnig Grat. At the top, views extend across the Urner Reusstal and Urnersee far into the Alps.
From the Arnisee mountain station, the circular route initially leads to Arnisee on the Arnialp. The ascent begins at the lakeshore, and the trail soon enters the Grüenwald. The mostly white-red-white waymarked mountain trail climbs steeply; above the forest, moorland and alpine pastures open out at the protected Riedboden.
Higher up, the route continues via Grossgand to the Sunniggrätlihütte, situated at almost 2,000 m. Shortly afterwards, the highest point is reached at Sunnig Grat, at just over 2,030 m. The mountain shoulder offers views into the Urner Reusstal and Maderanertal, and as far as the peaks of the Uri, Glarus and Schwyz Alps. Urnersee can also be seen far below.
The descent initially leads through open, occasionally rocky terrain before returning to the Grüenwald. The first houses come into view near Arni; shortly afterwards, the almost seven-kilometre circuit ends at the Arnisee mountain station. From here, cable cars descend to Amsteg and Intschi in the valley.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
