Trans Swiss Trail, Stage 22/32

A stage for railway enthusiasts: part of the trail runs directly alongside the railway tracks and passes Göschenen and Andermatt, which played a key role in the history of Gotthard Pass transport. It includes the legendary Teufelsbrücke bridge, which spans the impressive Schöllenen Gorge.

From the Wassen, Dorf bus stop, the mountain trail initially leads through the houses of Wassen. At Wassen railway station, it enters the forest and descends towards Wattingen, the lowest point on the route. The long ascent then begins, heading up the valley across open meadows and through wooded slopes.

Around the halfway point, the route reaches Göschenen. Bistro Göschenen is just a few steps from the trail. Beyond the village, the path continues to climb; forest and open pastures alternate as it rapidly gains elevation. Passing Geissenplatz, the route enters its final third.

The mountain trail climbs steeply once more, reaching its highest point at around 1'440 m shortly before Andermatt. From there, it is just over a kilometre and a gentle descent to the first houses. After a total of just over three hours, the hike ends in the village of Andermatt, a few steps from the Andermatt, Tourist Info bus stop.
