01/ Overview
The route
The valley of Maderanertal, world famous due to its natural beauty, opens up in Amsteg and the towering peak of Chli Windgällen and winds itself east ways towards the imposing Huefi glacier, always surrounded by high alpine mountain peaks.
From the Golzern mountain station, the mountain trail initially leads through Golzern and past the Gasthof Golzernsee. The lake itself lies slightly off the route. The trail climbs briskly between open meadows and pastures. After around four kilometres, it reaches its highest point at just over 2,000 m. In total, the ascents add up to around 800 metres of elevation gain.
Beyond the highest point, the route descends through alternating open and wooded terrain into the upper Maderanertal. The Adlerhorst viewpoint lies directly on the trail. Shortly afterwards comes the historic Berghotel Maderanertal. The first building was constructed in 1864, while the present main building dates from 1881.
The long descent continues via Stössialp. The forest now increasingly dominates until the mountain trail finally reaches the valley floor near Bristen. After 16 kilometres and a good five and a half hours, the hike ends at the Golzern valley station, just a few steps from the Bristen (Talstation) bus stop.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
