01/ Overview
The route
The Hexenplatte, (Witches' Stone), is a flat rock in the middle of a meadow on the Alp Caschlé. Legend has it that it was brought to Caschlé from the opposite side of the valley, suspended from the thread of a spider's web, and that witches once danced upon it.
The circular hike starts directly at the Sedrun stop and initially leads through Camischolas and Zarcuns. The settled area is soon left behind. The mountain hiking trail, marked throughout in white-red-white, climbs through woodland and across open meadows and pastures. With around 860 metres of ascent, the hike requires a good level of fitness. The higher the trail climbs, the more open the terrain becomes.
About halfway along, the route reaches its highest point near Caschlè at around 2,200 m. Here the long climb eases, and the descent back into the valley begins. The mountain trail once again alternates between open slopes and woodland before the houses of Sedrun draw closer. After twelve kilometres and a good four hours, the circular hike ends where it began, at the stop.
