01/ Overview

The route

At the heart of this stage is Disentis with its Benedictine monastery. The legend about the chapel near Disla is also interesting. The riverside path along the Young Rhine leads to Sumvitg. We recommend taking a detour up to Bostg at the start.

From the Sedrun bus stop, the route initially climbs along a mountain trail. Within the first kilometre, it reaches its highest point at around 1,450 m. A well-maintained hiking trail then leads through open meadows and the villages of Bugnei and Mumpé Tujetsch. The terrain remains undulating, though the route heads downhill for long stretches.

The trail approaches Disentis/Mustér via Segnas and Acletta. In Acletta, it passes directly by the Maria Immaculata chapel. Beyond Disentis, small settlements, meadows and patches of woodland alternate. Towards Pardomat, the trail becomes hillier again and continues through the forest to Cumpadials, where it passes directly by Baselgia S. Giusep. The final section brings another brief succession of climbs and descents before reaching Sumvitg and the nearby Sumvitg, vitg bus stop. Just under five hours should be allowed for the 18-kilometre hike.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
