Walserweg Gottardo, Stage 13/14

Steep climb through a gorge and to the heights of Alp Soliva. High above the valley floor with superb views of Disentis and the Surselva, the path winds through torrent gorges, and across alpine meadows to the idyllic Lag da Laus. Finally, there follows the long descent to Val, located in a quiet side valley of the Surselva.

From the Curaglia, posta bus stop, the mountain path leads through the village and past the church of Sontga Clau. It then climbs steeply across open slopes. The highest point is reached after around five kilometres, near Muraun pign at approximately 2,180 m; the long ascent is complete here.

An extended descent follows through alpine pastures and increasingly wooded terrain. The mountain path steadily loses altitude and, in the second half, reaches Lag da Laus, a lake in the Surselva. The route runs directly along its shore before entering the forest once more.

Towards the end, the path continues to descend into Val Sumvitg. After around 16 kilometres and a little over six and a half hours, the mountain hike ends in Sumvitg, Val; the Surrein, Val bus stop is just a few steps away.
