Thurgauer Napoleon-Weg

Parisian flair in Thurgau. Tracing the Napoleonic family's footsteps, you discover picturesque gardens and magnificent castles. The route leads through a mosaic of fields and orchards with spectacular views over the Untersee. Enjoy the panoramic views of the Alps, Vorarlberg and the Allgäu from the Napoleon Tower.

From the Siegershausen bus stop, the yellow-waymarked hiking trail leads to Bommen. Before long, the Bommer Weiher ponds come into view. These former fish ponds occupy a gentle valley hollow; the trail runs directly along the Oberer Bommerweiher before alternating between woodland and open farmland.

A longer, peaceful section follows through the rolling hills of Thurgau, passing small settlements and crossing meadows. The gradients remain moderate, with a total ascent of around 240 metres. Just over three-quarters of the way along the route, the highest point is reached at around 670 m. From here, the route gradually descends towards the Untersee.

Towards the end, the trail leads through Salenstein to Schloss Arenenberg. The estate was once the residence of Hortense de Beauharnais, the former Queen of Holland, and the future French Emperor Napoleon III; today it houses the Napoleon Museum, with furnishings that are largely original. The route then descends to Mannenbach-Salenstein, with views of the Untersee. After around 17 kilometres and four hours, the hike ends directly at the railway station.
