01/ Overview
The route
Once you set off from the Col des Mosses pass, you will pass through expansive meadow landscapes. Surrounded by magnificent views of the Gummfluh and other peaks, this leg ends in Château-d’Oex, the main settlement in the Pays d’Enhaut district and a hub for hot air balloons.
From the Les Mosses, Col des Mosses bus stop, the trail initially leads through the holiday resort to the Col des Mosses at 1,445 m. Shortly afterwards, it climbs across open meadows to the highest point of the route at just under 1,500 m, not far from the Arête Dorchaux. This means the main ascent is completed early on.
The broad hiking trail then continues gently up and down to La Lécherette. Pastures and scattered houses characterise this middle section; around halfway along, there is a fountain directly beside the route. The descent then continues, increasingly through inhabited areas, down to Les Moulins.
From there, the hike climbs gently once more, passes further meadows and, towards the end, reaches the first houses of Château-d’Oex. After a total of 15 kilometres and just over four hours, the route ends at Château-d’Oex railway station, only a few steps from the platforms.
