Via Alpina, Stage 18/20

In a gentle descent, the route follows the «La Torneresse» wild stream for several kilometres until the valley narrows at the Gorges du Pissot. This is where the scenery reveals views of the wide valley of the Pays-d’Enhaut. After Châteaux-d’Oex, the trail descends to Rossinière.

From the «Maison de L'Etivaz» stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point in L'Etivaz. At around 1,140 m, this is already the highest point of the hike. The yellow-waymarked hiking trail initially leads through open meadows and pastures. The route descends overall, but is punctuated by several short ascents and gradually enters longer stretches of forest.

After a little over two hours, the houses of Château-d'Oex come into view. Restaurant Le Caribou lies directly on the route; from there, the trail continues towards Rossinière between the edge of the settlement, meadows and woodland. The alternating ascents and descents add up to around 320 metres uphill and 580 metres downhill.

Towards the end, Lac du Vernex lies slightly off the route. This reservoir on the Sarine, also known as Lac de Rossinière, is already part of the surroundings near the destination. After around 14 kilometres and a little over three and a half hours, the trail reaches Rossinière; the stop of the same name is only a few steps from the endpoint.
