Trans Swiss Trail, Stage 26/32

The middle section of the Strada alta is considered to be the most pleasing and attractive. There are barely any altitude differences, it is mostly natural ground surfaces, and the peaks of the Leventina on the right are constantly in view. Chapels and churches enable contemplation and enjoyment of art.

The approximately four-hour hike begins at the Osco, Paese bus stop. The white-red-white waymarked mountain path leaves the village and soon enters the forest. Meadows and small settlements repeatedly appear between the trees. The route continues via Calpiogna and Figgione, with steady ups and downs, to Rossura.

Beyond Tengia, the route climbs once more. Near Mottarone, it reaches its highest point at around 1,190 m. From there, the route is predominantly downhill: first through forest, then across more open terrain towards Calonico. At the edge of the village, the church of San Martino comes into view, standing high above the Leventina and visible from afar. Restaurant Cacciatori is close to the route.

The final section returns to the forest and continues to lose elevation. After a total of 12 kilometres and around 600 metres of elevation difference, the hike ends in Anzonico. The Anzonico, Paese bus stop is just a few steps from the finish.
