01/ Overview
The route
A two-day ridge hike from Haldigrat to Niederbauen: open alpine pastures, panoramic heights on the Brisen and long stretches of mountain trail between the Engelberg Valley and Lake Lucerne.
The two-day ridge hike begins at the Haldigrat mountain station, reached by chairlift from Alpboden. The route climbs past Lauwistock towards the Brisen on a mountain trail marked in white-red-white. Nearby, the highest point lies at around 2,370 m; the Brisen offers panoramic views in every direction. The upper ridge can be slippery in places, and care is required on the southern descent via Schuenegg.
The trail leads via Sätteli to Brisenhaus, where a simple mattress dormitory divides the ridge hike into two days. Ängiloch and Klewenalp follow. Along the way, the route crosses open alpine pastures; with a little luck, ibex or chamois may be spotted on the wildlife observation trail.
After the lowest point at around 1,260 m, the mountain trail climbs steeply once more. It traverses the slopes below Zingel and Oberbauenstock before leading via Fulberg and the Oberbauen mountain trail to Niederbauen. The tour ends at the mountain station; the cable car descends to Emmetten, where there are connections to the bus.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
