01/ Overview
The route
After the enchantingly beautiful Gyrenbad, captivating views of the Alps are awaiting you at Schauenberg. Past the idyllic Bichelsee lake, the hike along the ridge starts with a view out over countless valleys. This demanding leg of the journey ends past the Alp Ergeten nature reserve at the Hulftegg Pass.
The long hike across the hills begins at the Turbenthal, Girenbad bus stop with an ascent through meadows and woodland. The trail soon reaches the Schauenberg, where the ruins of a hilltop castle stand at just under 900 metres. It then descends gradually across open uplands and through small settlements.
Near Seelmatten, the route briefly follows the Lobenstelbach. The hiking trail then climbs again and leads to Sitzberg, passing directly by the church. The alternation between stretches of woodland, meadows and pastures also characterises the second half of the route. The viewpoint at Obersädelegg is an ideal place for a break.
Towards the end, the trail climbs steeply once more. Near Regelsberg, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,000 metres. A short descent finally leads to Hulftegg and the nearby Mühlrüti, Hulftegg bus stop. A little over six hours should be allowed for the 21 kilometres and around 900 metres of ascent.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
