Thurgauer Tannzapfenweg

This hike is representative of the hiking paradise in the Fischingen region. A steady ascent in shady woods leads upwards to splendid, far-reaching views. Conglomerate rock gorges in the Alpine foothills alternate with gentle hilly landscapes.

From the Fischingen, Kloster bus stop, the circular route initially passes Fischingen Abbey. The village is soon left behind, and the hiking trail climbs between open meadows and stretches of woodland to the gentle heights above the valley. From Rotbühl, the route continues through the rural landscape.

Alternating between pastures and forest, the trail steadily gains altitude. At Groot, the hike reaches its highest point at just under 1,000 m. The summit lies directly on the route, though this wooded section remains understated and peaceful. The long return leg then begins, descending gradually via Höll.

Towards the end, the viewpoint at Ottenegg once again opens up views across the surrounding countryside. Shortly afterwards, the trail passes directly by St. Idda Chapel before entering the forest again. The final descent ends at the abbey in Fischingen, just a few steps from the bus stop. Around three and a half hours should be allowed for the twelve kilometres and approximately 500 metres of ascent.
