01/ Overview
The route
Enjoyable, varied paths follow the hillcrest, offering sweeping views over the moraine landscape to Lake Constance and the edge of the Alps with the Säntis. Following the cantonal border of Zurich and St. Gallen, the trail heads south. Beautiful beech trees and hospitality enrich the hike.
From the Mühlrüti, Hulftegg bus stop, the trail leads up to the pass of the same name. Hulftegg lies at 953 m between Mühlrüti and Steg im Tösstal. Woodland soon alternates with open meadows and pastures; at Silocafé, the route continues along the pre-Alpine ridge.
Around Hirzegg, the path becomes narrower before the mountain trail climbs to Schnebelhorn. At 1,291 m, the summit is the highest point in the canton of Zürich and lies on the border with St. Gallen. The route then continues through forest and across open uplands, with varied ascents and descents towards Schindelberg; the mountain inn stands directly on the route.
Beyond Rossegg comes the final longer ascent. Shortly before the destination, the hike reaches its highest point at around 1,310 m and then leads to Chrüzegg. The eleven-kilometre tour ends there after around four hours; the nearest bus stop, Atzmännig Schutt, is just under two kilometres away.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
