01/ Overview
The route
Chrüzegg offers spectacular views of the Zürichsee lake, the Glarus Aps and Alpstein as far as the Bodensee (Lake Constance). The Schnebelhorn, the highest mountain in Canton Zürich (1292m), has to be scaled before the stage ends at Hulftegg.
The hike begins at Chrüzegg, just under two kilometres from the nearest public transport stop, Atzmännig Schutt. After only a few minutes, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,310 m and the Chrüzegg viewpoint. The hiking trail then alternates between open pastures and woodland, passing Rossegg on the way to the Schindelberg mountain inn.
Beyond Schindelberg, the mountain trail becomes steeper. It climbs through wooded and, in places, rocky slopes to Schnebelhorn. The 1,291 m summit lies on the border between the cantons of Zurich and St. Gallen and is the highest point in the canton of Zurich. The route continues towards Hirzegg in a steady succession of ascents and descents before the long descent across meadows and through woodland begins.
Towards the end, the Silocafé lies directly on the route. Shortly afterwards, Hulftegg is reached, the 953 m pass between Mühlrüti and Steg im Tösstal. The Mühlrüti, Hulftegg bus stop is only a few steps from the finish.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
