01/ Overview
The route
This high-level route leads over the popular Uetliberg to Buchenegg affording surprising, breathtaking views of Zurich city, Zurichsee lake and even the Alps. At the same time, it is an oasis of peace in wonderful natural surroundings.
From Uetliberg railway station, the route gets under way without a lengthy approach. After just a few minutes, it reaches its highest point at around 850 m. The hiking trail then passes Restaurant Maiensäss and enters the forest. Clearings open up here and there between the trees before the trail continues with gentle ups and downs along the Albis ridge.
Around Felsenegg, dense stretches of forest alternate with open meadows and pastures. A longer section runs outside the marked hiking trail network, requiring greater attention to navigation. Overall, the elevation differences remain moderate, with around 200 metres of ascent and 240 metres of descent. After approximately eight kilometres and around two hours, the route reaches Buchenegg at just under 800 m. This small pass connects Langnau am Albis with Stallikon, and two restaurants offer places to stop for refreshments. There is no public transport connection at the destination: the nearest stop, Adliswil, Büchel, is around 1.2 km away.
