01/ Overview

The route

The trail follows the spectacular Albis mountain chain from the Üetliberg to the Albishorn before descending to Ebertswil, where the milk soup stone commemorates the Kappel milk soup of 1529. After Baar, it runs along the old Lorze river to Lake Zug.

From the Zürich Triemli stop, the trail begins beside the Döltschibach and climbs through the forest to Uetliberg. At 870 metres, Zürich’s local mountain is the first prominent landmark on the approximately 34-kilometre route. The hiking trail then follows the Albis ridge to Felsenegg and continues via Buchenegg to Albispass.

Beyond the pass, stretches of forest alternate with open pastures. The trail climbs once more, reaching its highest point near Bürglen at just over 900 metres. From here, the long second half, with considerably more descent than ascent, leads down from the wooded Albis ridge into Zugerland.

Towards the end, the Alte Lorze accompanies the route for over two kilometres. Lake Zug soon comes into view, and the trail briefly follows its shore. The final kilometres lead through the first houses of Zug to Bahnhofplatz, where the walk of just over ten hours ends.
