01/ Overview

The route

An urban walk through Wiedikon’s street canyons, parks and pockets of woodland: from Bühl through the neighbourhoods around Binz to the Kolbenhofbach, with a short detour into Enge.

From the Zürich, Schmiede Wiedikon stop, the urban walk initially leads through the neighbourhood’s street canyons. Passing Bühlkirche, it climbs along residential streets. Architectural monuments and new buildings are as much a focus as the walking and cycling links highlighted by the «Züri z Fuess» themed trail.

The route continues uphill via Zeigstrasse and the Binz area. After just over two kilometres, it reaches its highest point at around 450 m. Meadows and parks open up between the houses, after which the path follows the Kolbenhofbach for a short stretch. It then leads via Klopstockwiese and Hertersteg into the neighbouring district of Enge.

In the lower-lying part of the city, quiet green spaces alternate with busier streets. The Brauerbrunnen lies directly on the route, followed shortly afterwards by the pocket of woodland near Sihlhölzli. Over the final few metres, old Wiedikon once again takes centre stage. Passing the Bethaus, the route leads to Schmiedeplatz with its Löwenbrunnen and back to the Zürich, Schmiede Wiedikon stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
