01/ Overview

The route

From the Rietberg grounds to the shore of Lake Zurich and along the Sihl, this city walk links green parks, striking buildings and the history of the Enge district.

The «Züri z Fuess» city walk begins near the Zürich Enge stop at the Reformed Church Enge. The striking Neo-Renaissance building stands prominently on a moraine ridge. From here, the route winds through the district, whose name has been documented since 1210, to the Rietberg grounds. Among villas, parks and old trees, it soon reaches its highest point at around 440 m.

The route then descends to the Mythenquai lido and Lake Zurich. The path continues along the shore, passing the Succulent Plant Collection and Hafen Enge with its pub, before following General-Guisan-Quai towards the city centre. The open lakeshore now gives way to streets and squares.

In the final third, the route follows the Sihl for a short stretch. It then leads through Enge and past the Hürlimann grounds on the way back. After a little over two hours, the circular walk ends once more at the Reformed Church Enge; the Zürich Enge stop is just under 200 m away.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
