01/ Overview
The route
An almost level city walk through Zurich’s District 4: residential courtyards, neighbourhood squares and small green spaces tell the story of Aussersihl and Hard before the route follows the Döltschibach into the industrial quarter.
The city walk begins just a few steps from the Zürich Selnau stop. It initially leads through densely populated Aussersihl, passing the Reformed Church of St. Jakob. Shortly afterwards, at 412 m, the practically flat route already reaches its highest point. It continues across Helvetiaplatz through a neighbourhood whose diverse population shapes District 4.
Bäckeranlage and Erismannhof provide pockets of greenery between the rows of buildings. In between, residential courtyards, commercial buildings and places such as the Missione Cattolica Italiana reflect the everyday life and history of Aussersihl. Towards Hard, enclosed streets alternate with more open squares and local recreational spaces, while the route remains almost entirely level.
Towards the end, the freight station, Bullingerplatz and the industrial quarter come to the fore. For the final 500 metres or so, the route follows the Döltschibach. After just over six kilometres, the city walk ends at the Zürich, Herdernstrasse stop.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
