01/ Overview
The route
This urban walk follows the Sihl through Zurich, revealing how new access points to the river, green islands and densely built-up neighbourhoods interweave.
From the Zürich HB SZU stop, the urban walk initially leads through the city centre to the Old Botanical Garden and the Sihl. The route follows the river through the Selnau neighbourhood. Along the way, it becomes clear how Zurich has reopened itself to the water: there were once only a few access points to the Sihl and Limmat, but more have been added in recent years.
At Sihlporte, the riverside and dense urban fabric come together. The Sihl waterfall provides a surprising accent, after which the route passes the Sigi-Feigel-Terrasse and Kulturinsel. The Sihlhochstrasse is also part of the scene, revealing another side of Zurich’s urban development along the water.
Towards the end, the surroundings become greener at Sihlhölzli. The route continues on virtually level ground to Sihlcity. At Zürich, Sihlcity Nord, the roughly three-and-a-half-kilometre walk ends near the stop; the highest point, at around 420 m, lies immediately before the finish.
