01/ Overview
The route
Zurich’s history at every turn: this city walk links the Schanzengraben, Lindenhof and Münsterhof with historic lanes, churches and city models from different eras.
The circular walk through Zurich’s city centre begins directly at Bahnhofplatz/HB and takes a good hour and a half. From the Alfred Escher Fountain, the route heads to the Sihlraum by the Kaserne and continues to the Schanzengraben. It then climbs via Rennweg to the Lindenhof terrace, which, at around 430 m, also marks the highest point. Along the way, city models from different eras illustrate Zurich’s development; the current model also lies on the route.
From Lindenhof, the route descends through the Old Town to Thermengasse and Münsterhof. Here stands the Zunfthaus zur Waag, completed in 1315. Passing the Fraumünster cloister, the walk continues to Stadthausquai and then to Grossmünster, whose Romanesque structure was built between 1100 and 1220. Next come the Haus zum Rech, with its model of Zurich around 1800, and the lanes of Niederdorf. A final loop through the city centre eventually leads back to Bahnhofplatz/HB.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
