01/ Overview
The route
From the university quarter via Rigiblick to Irchelpark, this city walk combines the village history of Oberstrass with green heights, sweeping views over Zurich and the Monte Diggelmann viewpoint.
From the Zürich Polyterrasse stop, the «Züri z Fuess» city walk leads from the university quarter up to Oberstrass. Between houses and quiet streets, the route traces the transformation of this once largely rural village, which was incorporated into Zurich in 1893. Passing Café Oberstrass and the Reformed Church of Oberstrass, it continues to Rigiplatz.
The path now climbs more steeply towards Rigiblick. At the monumental fountain dating from 1917, the route reaches its highest point at around 590 metres. From here, the view opens out over the city, Lake Zurich and as far as the Alps. The streets then gradually give way to meadows and clusters of trees on Zürichberg, as the path continues towards Irchelpark.
In the park, the route climbs Monte Diggelmann. This viewpoint hill was created in the 1970s from material excavated during construction of the Irchel campus. The route descends again through green spaces and a short stretch of woodland to Universität Irchel. The destination is at the stop of the same name.
