Alpine Panorama Trail, Stage 27/29

A morning of lovely views through the vineyards and wine villages of the Vaud La Côte region, a shady afternoon along the TobleroneTrail on the Serine stream (a former tank trap) and in the evening a visit to Prangin Castle and the medieval city of Nyon.

From the Aubonne, gare bus stop, the trail leads into the small town and directly past Château d’Aubonne, a cultural property of national significance. The route then climbs across open meadows and through Bougy-Villars. Near Mont-Dessus, at just over 600 metres, lies the highest point of the hike.

Villages, pastures and short stretches of woodland now characterise the long route westwards. Following marked hiking trails throughout, it continues in gentle undulations via Bursins and Luins to Begnins. In Vich, the route passes the church and follows the Serine for a short stretch before continuing once more through open countryside.

Towards the end, the trail descends to Lake Geneva. Staying close to the shore, it leads to Prangins and past Château de Prangins. The château houses the Swiss National Museum’s branch in French-speaking Switzerland; the complex also includes a large kitchen garden featuring plant varieties from the 18th century. After around 30 kilometres and a good seven and a half hours, the hike ends in Nyon, not far from the railway station.
