01/ Overview
The route
There's no chocolate along the Toblerone Trail. It's actually an educational route that focuses on history, following a defensive line set up in the second world war between the Jura peaks and Lake Geneva. Well over 3,000 triangular tank traps resemble the "peaks" on a Toblerone bar – hence the name.
The hike begins at the Bassins, gare stop, right at the highest point of the route. From around 750 m, the yellow-waymarked trail descends mostly gently, initially through open meadows and later through stretches of woodland. After the first few kilometres, it is joined by the Serine, which accompanies the route as far as Vich. The stream, woodland and small clearings define this peaceful section, interspersed with fields that open up views of the surrounding countryside.
Beyond Vich, settlements gradually become more frequent, though the hiking trail remains amid greenery for a long way. Towards the end, the route reaches the shore of Lake Geneva. In Prangins, it passes the Château de Prangins, which houses the Swiss National Museum’s site in French-speaking Switzerland; the château also has a large kitchen garden. The final few kilometres lead through increasingly urban surroundings to Nyon. After around four and a half hours, the 18-kilometre hike ends near the railway station.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
