Autour du Mont Gond

The largest and oldest larches in Europe, followed by the spirit of Japan - the hike around Mont Gond explores the most beautiful landscapes of Nendaz. It leads through the ancient larch forest of Balavaux. On the descent, the next scenic highlight follows: the Japanese garden.

The hike begins at the Tracouet bus stop, high above Nendaz. After just a few minutes, the route passes Lac de Tracouet, which lies at the foot of the Dent de Nendaz. A broad hiking trail then leads across open Alpine pastures to the Cabane de Balavaux.

The path now narrows, continuing as a mountain trail across broad, increasingly rocky slopes. Around the halfway point, the route reaches its highest point near the Dents Rousses, at just under 2,600 metres. A short section here is unmarked. A long descent then begins, initially still across open terrain.

Farther down, the route alternates between pastures and stretches of woodland. At Tortin, the mountain trail passes Le Hameau de Tortin, after which the path broadens again. It leads down through the valley to Siviez, where the hike ends after around 14 kilometres and a little over four and a half hours, directly at the Siviez bus stop.
