01/ Overview
The route
A pleasant, level path through the Lower Valais Valley passes through the wine-growing village of Ardon, continuing to Sion. The route often leads along the banks of the Rhone river as you take a relaxing rural excursion with views of the Valais Alps.
From the Ardon, centre stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point in the village. Almost immediately, the route reaches its highest point near La Routia at around 500 m. It then leaves Ardon with barely perceptible changes in elevation and continues across broad, open terrain, passing close by the Restaurant Bon Bon.
After this flat opening section, the trail approaches the Lizerne and follows the stream for a good kilometre. Woodland replaces the open terrain. Some sections lie outside the marked hiking trail network, but the longer middle section follows a signposted hiking trail. With no significant climbs, the route continues towards Sion.
In the final third, houses become more frequent and the open plain gradually gives way to the built-up area of Sion. Towards the end, the route passes the Eglise évangélique. After a total of around eleven kilometres and just over two and a half hours, the hike ends at Sion railway station.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
