01/ Overview
The route
The stage begins in the nature reserve around Lac de Derborence and leads up to Lac de la Forcle on the Col de la Forcle. Face to face with mighty mountains, the trail leads across meadows and rocky landscapes, mostly downhill to Ovronnaz, where you can relax in thermal baths.
The starting point is Lac de Derborence, one of Switzerland’s youngest naturally formed mountain lakes. It was created by a rockslide in 1749; the lake and the surrounding old-growth pine forest are protected as a nature reserve. The nearest bus stop, Derborence, is around 500 metres from the start.
From the lake, the mountain trail climbs steadily. The forest is left behind, and open meadows and pastures characterise the long ascent. Higher up, the terrain becomes barer and rockier. Near the small Lac de la Forcla, the final ascent to Col de La Forcla begins. The highest point of the route is reached at around 2,550 m.
A long descent follows. The mountain trail initially leads through rocky terrain and across open slopes before re-entering the forest. Over the final few kilometres, the path becomes wider and reaches Ovronnaz after around seven hours and a total of 17 kilometres. The Ovronnaz, centre bus stop is close to the finish.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
