Tour du Grand Chavalard

Circular hiking tour on the slopes of the Grand Chavalard (2899 m). Highlights of the summit circuit: the panoramic trip by chairlift to the starting point, the section over the Fenestral pass, the mountain lakes of Fully - and of course the view of the Mont Blanc and the Rhone valley.

From the Jorasse stop, the mountain trail sets off across open slopes. The long ascent leads towards Le Greppon Blanc, whose rocky flanks dominate the scenery. After around four and a half kilometres, the highest point is reached at the Col du Fenestral, at approximately 2,450 m. By this point, much of the total ascent of around 1,100 metres has already been completed.

Beyond the pass, the white-red-white waymarked mountain trail descends through increasingly rocky terrain. Around the two Fully lakes, the landscape becomes more open; Lac Supérieur lies slightly off the route. A little later, the trail passes close to a small chapel and continues its long descent across alpine pastures.

At L'Erié, the circuit turns back towards Ovronnaz. After the lowest point, there is another ascent before woodland and open slopes begin to alternate. After around 15 kilometres and a little over five and a half hours, the hike ends back at the Jorasse stop.
