Chemin du vignoble

The 74-km Wine Trail leads through the band of vineyards between Leuk and Martigny. The stretch can be covered in four stages, the best times being spring or autumn – in summer it’s hot and humid in the vineyards.

The long hike from Martigny to Leuk begins at the Branson, Pont du Rhône bus stop. For almost eight kilometres, the trail follows the Canal de Fully, initially through the houses of Branson and later across open meadows and fields. After a short stretch along the Canal de Gru, it continues through Saillon, Ardon and Vétroz; between the villages, the broad hiking trail stays amid the open land on the valley slope.

The route continues via Sensine towards Sion and through Molignon to Saint-Léonard. Close to the trail lies the Lac Souterrain, Europe’s largest underground lake at 260 metres long. Villages and open cultivated land then alternate before the trail climbs via Ollon VS to Venthône.

Beyond Miège, the route gains height once more. Near Gitzitotz, it reaches its highest point at around 830 m before descending to Varen. Passing through the houses of Leuk, the trail leads directly past Leuk Castle and continues to Susten. The hike ends at the Leuk, Bahnhof stop after 65 kilometres and just over 20 hours.
