01/ Overview
The route
From Col des Planches over meadows to Col du Lein, a wonderful spot to stop with barbecue places. Then into the forest at Boveresse and on romantic paths alongside the Bisse de Saxon (irrigation channels), at first dry, later running with water, to Tsoumaz.
The hike begins at the Col-des-Planches bus stop on the pass of the same name. The pass lies on the mountain ridge between the Rhône Valley and the Dranse Valley and links Martigny with Sembrancher. The yellow-waymarked hiking trail initially climbs through the forest and, after just over two kilometres, passes the Buvette de l’Alpage du Tronc. Soon afterwards, it reaches the Col du Lein at 1,658 m.
Shortly after the top of the pass, the trail reaches its highest point at around 1,720 m; the summit of Les Blisiers lies away from the route. Longer stretches of forest then alternate with open meadows and alpine pastures. For many kilometres, the trail remains at a similar elevation as it winds through the peaceful mountain landscape towards La Tzoumaz.
After around four hours, the 13-kilometre hike reaches La Tzoumaz. From the finish, it is around 200 m to the La Tzoumaz (télés. Etablons) stop.
