01/ Overview
The route
The geological theme trail on Mont Chemin leads from the Col des Planches through woodland and open pastures. Geology and mining are the focus of this short circular route.
From the Col-des-Planches bus stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point near Vens. The Mont Chemin Mining Trail begins at around 1,400 m and initially climbs to the highest point of the route. After just under a kilometre, the trail reaches just over 1,430 m near La Crevasse. The route focuses on the geology of Mont Chemin and its mining history; the trail is listed in the «Erlebnis Geologie» directory.
The short circular route then follows marked hiking trails for the most part, alternating between woodland, meadows and pastures. With no major differences in elevation, it descends to around 1,300 m before climbing gently again. Towards the end, the trail enters the Forêt Fama and returns to the Col des Planches after just over an hour. The pass connects Martigny and Sembrancher across the ridge between the Rhône Valley and the Dranse valley; the Col-des-Planches bus stop is located directly at the finish.
