01/ Overview

The route

Meadowland, fissured mountains, magnificent views and Alpine pastures with refreshments available: this very varied hike circles the Arête de L’Argentine mountain chain. The tour starts and ends in Solalex on the banks of the Avançon: a popular spot with families, nature-lovers and climbers.

It is only a few steps from the Gryon, Solalex bus stop to the starting point of the circular hike. The route initially leads out of Solalex, soon becoming a mountain trail as it climbs across open pastures. Sections of woodland provide a marked change of scenery along the way. With around 1,050 metres of ascent, the tour requires a good level of fitness; the long climb defines its first half.

The route continues through open mountain terrain in a succession of ascents and descents. Near La Corde, it reaches its highest point at around 2,050 m, although the summit itself lies away from the trail. Shortly afterwards, the mountain trail crosses the Col des Essets and descends to Anzeindaz. From there, the final descent to Solalex begins. After a little over five hours, the circuit ends back near the bus stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
