Tour des Alpes Vaudoises, Stage 8/8

The final stage of the Vaud Alps tour starts in Gryon. This town is surrounded by some of the most attractive Alpine peaks such as the Muveran and the Miroir d’Argentine. A large part of the trail to Aigle, the destination for this stage, leads through vineyards.

The hike begins at Gryon railway station at around 1,130 m, which is also the highest point on the route. The trail leaves the houses behind and soon enters the forest. For a short stretch, it follows the Avançon d’Anzeindaz. Woodland, meadows and pastures then alternate; although the route generally leads downhill, several counter-climbs add up to around 580 metres of ascent.

The route leads via Fenalet-sur-Bex and Antagnes to Ollon. Close to the trail stands the Château de la Roche, a medieval fortified house and one of the last surviving structures of its kind in the Vaud Chablais. Beyond Ollon, the route once again crosses open countryside and woodland before the houses of Aigle draw nearer. The Château d’Aigle stands directly on the route and has housed the Vine and Wine Museum since 1976. The route continues through the town to Aigle railway station, reached after 18 kilometres and just over five hours.
