Chemin de Mont-Soleil

This hike combines nature and innovation. On the heights of Mont-Soleil, above the valley of Saint-Imier and at the gateway to the Franches Montagnes, it offers magnificent views of the typical wooded pastures. The trail follows a part of the Sentier des Monts dedicated to renewable energies.

From the Sonvilier stop, the hiking trail leads out of the village and soon climbs into the wooded Jura heights. After the first sustained ascent, Auberge L’Assesseur stands directly on the route. Woodland and open pastures alternate before the Belvédère viewpoint offers an inviting spot for a short break. A little further on, the trail passes Le Manoir and continues uphill.

Just over halfway, the route reaches Mont Soleil, the highest point of the hike at around 1,290 m. This Jura mountain lies north of Saint-Imier, and its summit area remains largely wooded. The long descent then begins, initially through forest and later across open terrain. The approximately 13-kilometre route now loses elevation steadily and approaches the first houses of Saint-Imier. Shortly before the destination, it passes Restaurant Jasmin Erguël. After around four hours, the hike ends at the St-Imier stop.
