01/ Overview
The route
Initially along the Borgnes river, then up into the villages high on the cliffs. Typical homes, barns and chapels are found around Evolène in a protected landscape with views across the mountains and the untamed Val d’Hérens. And finally, a section of the trail with paintings and poetry.
From the Evolène, Village bus stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point of this circular hike of around eleven kilometres. The broad hiking trail leaves Evolène and initially crosses open terrain to La Tour. The route continues up the valley via Les Haudères before the climb to La Forclaz becomes noticeably steeper.
Above the village, just over halfway along the route, lies the highest point at around 1,730 m, near Roc Vieux. The scenery then changes: instead of meadows and pastures, the trail now runs through the Forêt des Sanières and the Forêt du Dévin. Winding between the trees, the route descends to La Sage.
Via Le Borza and Villa, the trail approaches Evolène once more. The final kilometres alternate between open countryside and forest before the first houses of the village come into view. After around three and a half hours, the hike ends back at its starting point in Evolène.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
