Tour du Lac de Moiry

High-altitude trail around the lake of Moiry at 2,500 m.a.s.l. The hike through the spectacular alpine landscapes shaped by glaciers promises beautiful views of the dam with its lake, the wild Moiry valley at the end of the Val d'Anniviers, and the glittering Moiry glacier.

The circular hike starts at the Moiry VS, barrage bus stop, directly beside the dam of Lac de Moiry. The reservoir comes into view right from the outset, before the path climbs across open slopes. It soon becomes a mountain trail, continuing through increasingly rocky terrain. After just under six kilometres, the highest point is reached near Pointe du Bandon at around 2,600 m.

The descent leads to Lac de Châteaupré in the forefield of the Moiry Glacier. The mountain lake is fed by meltwater and the Gougra; the Buvette du glacier lies directly on the route. The route then follows the valley back, initially across stony terrain and later once again over more open slopes. Over the final metres, it leaves the marked trail network and, after 14 kilometres and a good four and a half hours, ends back at the dam by the bus stop.
