Alpine Passes Trail, Stage 23/43

The hike begins at Hotel Weisshorn and follows the tracks of the Sierre-Zinal mountain run down to Grimentz. You hike below the Pointes de Nava on a scenic stretch of path. This is a winding descent through the forest to Grimentz, a typical Valais village with wooden houses darkened by the sun.

The starting point is Hotel Weisshorn, well away from public transport. The nearest stop, St-Luc (Tignousa), is just under two kilometres away. Initially, the white-red-white waymarked mountain trail climbs across open slopes. Rocky terrain and the nearby Bec de Nava define the character of this first section. After just over two kilometres, the route reaches its highest point at around 2,430 m.

The long descent then begins. The mountain trail crosses the open slopes before gradually entering the forest. Farther down, it joins a yellow-waymarked hiking trail leading to Ayer. After the lowest section, the route climbs gently once more, alternating between forest and more open terrain.

Towards the end, the houses of Grimentz come into view. The trail passes the Church of Saint Théodule and ends in the village after around twelve kilometres. About four hours should be allowed for the hike. The Grimentz, télécabine stop is only a few steps from the destination.
