01/ Overview
The route
Hiking into the wild, untouched Vallon de Réchy, past extended low moors with rare plants. The trail describes a loop to the Le Louché mountain lake where wildlife is often spotted. Start and destination is the Crêt-du-Midi mountain, easy to reach by gondola offering magnificent views.
The circular hike starts at the Crêt du Midi upper station, high above Vercorin. The mountain of the same name rises to 2,332 m between the Val d’Anniviers and the Val de Réchy. After a short opening stretch on a wide hiking trail, the route continues along a mountain trail. It initially descends across open slopes before the long climb back up begins. For a short stretch, the trail follows La Rèche.
The route steadily gains altitude across pastures and increasingly rocky terrain. Around halfway, it reaches its highest point at approximately 2,580 m, with the Becca di Lovegno forming part of the mountain backdrop away from the route. The small lake Le Louché also lies just off the trail. The mountain trail then turns back towards Crêt du Midi. Across open slopes, a broad succession of ascents and descents leads back to the starting point. After 15 kilometres and just under five hours, the circular hike ends at the upper station; the Restaurant du Crêt-du-Midi is right next door.
