Chemin d’Ossona

Hike between Les Prixes and La Luette with a spectacular passage across the 133 m Grande Combe suspension bridge. Just before the bridge is the hamlet of Ossona on a plateau in the heart of the Val d’Hérens, a showcase project for gentle and sustainable agritourism.

The hike begins at the Vernamiège, Les Prixes bus stop at just under 1,200 m, which is also the highest point on the route. The broad hiking trail initially leads through open meadows and pastures. Although the route is downhill overall, short uphill sections add variety.

Ossone is reached about halfway along the route. Restaurant Ossona stands directly beside the trail and is ideal for a break. The character of the route then changes: a white-red-white waymarked mountain trail winds through woodland, continuing downhill with constant ups and downs. Small clearings repeatedly open up among the trees before the trail becomes easier again towards the end.

After around eight kilometres and a little over two and a half hours, La Luette comes into view. The final few metres lead through the small settlement to the La Luette bus stop. The route involves a total ascent of around 360 metres and a descent of 540 metres.
